South Parkholme Tennis club was formed in August 1955 and established at the current site Sandison Ave, Parkholme. The club house was financed and built by its founding members and work was completed in 1958. Many achievements of the club can be highlighted since it beginnings - Parkholme won its first premiership in 1960 and went on to win its first 'A' Grade premiership in 1962. Over the course of the club's history it has won the champions trophy for the senior and junior divisions and has been a power house in the Glenelg Districts Tennis Association over many periods. More recently the neighbouring park has been aptly named the 'Woodforde Family Reserve' recognising the efforts of family over a 40 year period. Ray Woodforde has been the stalwart of the club through this period creating a club focussing on nurturing young tennis players. This can be highlighted by the success of one of its young starts Mark Woodforde who trained at the club. Mark reached a career high singles ranking of 19 beating named players such as Hewitt, Hrbaty, Ivanisevic, Safin, Sampras, Enqvist, Courier, Agassi, Rios, Henman, Rafter and Lendl. In doubles he teamed with Todd Woodbridge to become the no 1 team in the world for many years on end. Big Brother celebrity Joel Scalzi also spent his junior days at South Parkholme. Currently the club has a number of senior teams and junior teams and provides coaching through out the week to all standards of tennis players. It also participates in Wednesday ladies competition and its facilities are available for hire for social functions.
